Coconut oil has been part of everyday cooking in Sri Lanka for generations. For virgin coconut oil, the fresh flesh of ripe coconuts is gently processed and mechanically pressed.

What does "virgin" mean?

Virgin coconut oil is produced without refining, bleaching or deodorising. It therefore keeps its typical, mild coconut aroma and taste.

Solid or liquid?

Coconut oil melts at around 24–26 °C. In winter it is solid and white, in summer clear and liquid. This is completely natural and not a quality defect – the change does not harm the oil.

Using it in the kitchen

  • For frying and sautéing, e.g. curries, vegetables and rice dishes.
  • For baking as an alternative to butter.
  • For sweet dishes, porridge and desserts with a delicate coconut note.

How to store it

Keep cool, dark and tightly closed. Always use a clean, dry spoon – this keeps the oil fresh for a long time.
